Welcome to Greene County Board of Developmental Disabilities. Known since 1980 as the Greene County Board of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities (MRDD), our organization is currently going through a state-mandated name change that will drop "mental retardation" from our moniker, although we will continue to provide services and supports for people with mental retardation. (You can find out more about this name change under our "What's New" section.)

The Greene County Board of Developmental Disabilities is a county agency committed to serving individuals with mental and physical disabilities in Greene County, while providing support services for their families. Our mission is to ensure the availability of programs, supports and services that assist eligible individuals with disabilities in making choices and achieving a life of increasing capability so that they may live, work and play in the community.

The Board recently was again accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), an independent nonprofit that accredits 25,000 rehabilitation organizations in the United States, Canada, Europe, and South America. In October, the Board received a three-year certification, the highest obtainable. Our organization was also the first in the country to be accredited for Supports for Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder.

This year, Greene, Inc., the Board's Adult Services' nonprofit, is anticipating the opening of its new Atrium, a 20,000 square-foot, state-of-the-art habilitation facility that will house a new and improved workshop, classrooms, a learning kitchen, and a roomy cafeteria while providing services, support and employment opportunities for people with lifelong disabilities. The atrium is expected to open in early October 2009.
